PUCHAU FILMS started in 2006 as my underground studio. I make surrealist auteur films in Super 8 format the way they were done in the ’60s and ’70s. Everything shot, edited and finished by hand on celluloid. The entire process is completely analog, nothing digital. The only way to get my films is physical, as reels of film.
Each film comes in a limited edition: exactly 99 units, numbered and signed by me. Once they’re gone, that’s it. No reprints, no special editions years down the road.
We don’t exist on the internet. We stay underground, physical and analog. Only by word of mouth. No website, no social media, no stores.

THE PROCESS
The production process is completely analogical, divided into three phases:
Recording: A Canon analog camera equipped with Kodak Vision3 film in Super8 format is used. Every footage is recorded directly onto celluloid. Audio is captured simultaneously on analog magnetic tape using a synchronized tape recorder, creating the original sound element for later assembly.

Editing: The exposed film negative is sent to a specialized lab for chemical development. The developed negative film is then edited by hand. This physical film is cut and assembled into the final edit without any digital processes, using traditional film-splicing techniques. The analog audio tape is edited in parallel: cut, spliced, and synchronized to the image using sync pulses and cue marks, frame by frame.
Laboratory: The final edited negative and synchronized audio tape are sent to the lab. The optical printing process combines both elements onto a single release print on cellulose roll, with the sound embedded directly in the reel alongside the image.
LIMITED EDITION AND COLLECTION
I produce exactly 99 units of each film. This is a limited edition, where each copy is hand-signed and individually numbered, creating a unique and unrepeatable object. With every purchase, you receive a certificate of authenticity, a detailed information guide tied to your serial number, and an original frame of the actual film negative from the shoot itself. That piece of celluloid was there during the recording. Once the 99 are gone, they’re gone. No reprints. No special editions years later. Never, ever.
EXHIBITION FORMAT
PUCHAU Films exists exclusively on celluloid reel tape. You’ll need a Super 8 projector to watch these films. They won’t play on televisions, computers, or any digital device.
Viewing PUCHAU Films is a conscious act: threading the reel onto the projector, adjusting the focus, listening to the mechanical advance of the film, hearing the sound.
Cinema is once again an event in itself, but beyond that, it retains something more important: a whole experience that digital distribution has erased.
DURABILITY AND LEGACY
Reel film is one of the most durable storage mediums in history. With proper storage, acetate-based film lasts 100 years, and polyester-based prints can exceed 500 years. These lifespans far surpass other formats like Floppy disks, USB drives, HDD, SSDs, CDs, DVDs, Blue-ray, and VHS tapes, which degrade within decades. PUCHAU Films collection becomes a permanent archive, a tangible investment with serious collector value that lasts for generations..
